Mr. Kaplan moves to Dunstable

Pembina Hills Regional Division No. 7 is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Steven Kaplan as Principal of Dunstable School.

Mr. Kaplan, a graduate of Barrhead's Lorne Jenken High School, began his teaching career in 1999. In August of 2004, he returned to PHRD as a high school and Grade 9 Teacher at his old high school, BCHS. Then, in August of 2007, Steven accepted his first administrative assignment as the Associate Principal of Fort Assiniboine School.

Throughout his career, he has taught a range of classes, in grades 6 - 12, from core academic classes to physical education to CTS courses, as well as religion. Volunteer activities and professional development have added many skills to his teacher toolbox such as coaching, First Aid/CPR, Class 2 Drivers License, Covey 7 Habits Signature Series (participant and facilitator), First Steps in Math Training Facilitator, mentorship and Fred Jones: Tools for Teachers.

Mr. Kaplan holds a Bachelor of Physical Education with Distinction, an After Degree in Secondary Education and is progressing towards the completion of his Masters of Educational Studies in Leadership and School Improvement. Steven has assumed additional lead roles as our Division Professional Development Chairperson and as a Facilitator for Covey 7 Habits Signature Series.

Steven's philosophy on education is "All students can learn and must be included in the educational process, particularly if society desires life-long learners and contributing members."

Steven and his wife Janet are the proud parents of Matthew, Zoe and Magnus.

Steven looks forward to forging new partnerships and working with the community, students and staff of Dunstable School as Principal.
