26 Mar
At the PHRD Board meeting, held on Wednesday March 24, there was discussion surrounding the nominations of First-Year Teachers for the Edwin Parr Award. After the consideration of the submitted applications, Richard Kremp will now serve as the Pembina Hills nominee to go to the Zone 2/3 level. Congratulations to Richard!
The Alberta School Boards Association 2010 Edwin Parr Teacher Award is designed to provide recognition to the most outstanding NOVICE teacher in the province who meets the following criteria:
• First year K-12 teacher, who agrees to be nominated.
• A minimum of 100 full-time equivalent days of teaching within the current school year.
• Candidate may have up to 120 days of teaching service prior to signing full-time contract.
• First year teaching experience must be completed in Alberta from a school jurisdiction that is a member of the Alberta School Boards Association.
Edwin Parr was a homesteader in the Meanook region of Alberta near Athabasca in 1920. He served on the school board and instituted an award recognizing one member of his staff for long and meritorious service. He was also president of the Alberta School Trustees’ Association from 1959-62. After his death in 1963, the ASTA established the Edwin Parr Award in his memory one year later.
